I am an inexpert gardener, but I love to cook with fresh vegetables, so every year I buy tomato plants, seedlings, and seeds. Ever hopeful!
It was in the high 80's Sunday afternoon when I walked in Spring Bluff Forest Preserve. I saw a crane, five egrets, and many red-winged blackbirds. Most of the people I saw were on bicycles, heading farther east to the marina.

My OMG for May is finished. It's a tote bag for the outgoing chair of the Illinois P.E.O. Home Fund . P.E.O.'s colors are white and yellow and ... read more
This is my own method.
The sewing on this one is going together quickly.
I will be posting a tutorial for this finishing method,
which I am figuring out as I go.
Fabric in, April: ZERO
Fabric out, April: 118-3/8 yards
Fabric in, YTD: 210-1/2 yards, $455
Fabric out, YTD: 426 yards
Net decrease: 213-1/2
In April I made 253 masks. I sent a B.O.R.S. (box of random scraps) to JS in Iowa (along with 152 HeartStrings blocks). I made 3-1/2" rail fence units and 4.5" HSTs in all of the remaining RSC 2020 colors. I finished 12 house block mug rugs.
My One Monthly Goal for May is to make a daisy-themed tote bag. I've got the fabric! I just need to ...
We are
I am enjoying having met my monthly goal.
:-)
I added about 18" extra warp, and still had plenty of cotton leftover when finished.
Fresh off the loom the fabric looked like this-

It's time to post One Monthly Goal achievements. I completed my OMG: to begin the house-themed mug rugs for the Illinois P.E.O. Home Fund . The mug rugs will be given to each chapter who sponsored a Home Fund recipient this year -- about 20 in all. One of the other two committee members will make a few.

I've made 37 blocks for Shelter in Place, my pandemic "souvenir" quilt. My idea is to make one block for each day. Yesterday the Illinois governor extended the shelter-in-place order through May 31 ... read more
I finished the RSC rail fence blocks -- 46 in each of the ten colors. They are 3-1/2".
These house-block mug rugs are my April OMG.
They are 8 x 10, somewhat larger than usual for mug rugs. The block is 6" finished and I didn't want to fiddle around with scaling it down. The 2" window provides for fussy-cut "pictures." As you can see, two are quilted and bound.
The house block was just what I needed for a quilted document of the Covid-19 pandemic. I plan to make a block for each day of the shut down ... read more
This is the last of the kits I bought from Jane Stafford Textiles. These are to learn Huck Lace - again much easier to weave than I thought it would be. Made from plain 8/2 cotton, the kit is for 8 towels.
Each set of towels I have made I have had to deal with some kind of a weaving issue (a great way to learn! A few loose warp threads with the first ones, and replacing a ... read more

Stash report for March:
Fabric in: NONE
Fabric out: 138-3/4 yards
YTD fabric in: 210-1/2 yards, $455
YTD fabric out: 307-5/8 yards
Net: 97-1/8 OUT (hooray!)
That 138-3/4 includes *102* yards given
away to online friends. I made a tote bag. I also got a head start on my RSC rail fence units (in addition to teal I made red, yellow, and dark blue). I finished the two ALA Biblioquilters quilts and made a ... read more
I completed my One Monthly Goals for March, hosted by Elm Street Quilts.
They were to weave a set of tea towels-
These ones are made from cotton boucle (from a kit from Jane Stafford Textiles).
To finish knitting a gnome -
A mystery knit called Gnome is Where You Hang Your Hat by Sarah Schira, made from handspun yarn.
And to finish an inkle weaving project -
My first inkle weaving (I'm calling it a belt for now, one day it may become something else).
Last month my goal was to weave fabric for my Mom. Here is what she ... read more
Two weeks in: Stevens and I are healthy. We've checked in with family and friends and they are fine. Nearly every activity has come to a screeching halt. The big cancellation in my world was the ALA Annual Conference at the end of June. Both the Zion Woman's Club luncheon (May) and the AAUW luncheon (June) have been cancelled. The Rotary Golf Outing is rescheduled for September 25. I've been to three meetings using Zoom with more to come.
I've kept my outings to two supermarkets (Aldi and Jewel) and the post office. I've taken ...
I started March 1st getting the warp ready, and have started weaving. The kit makes 9 towels.
I also plan on finishing the Mystery Gnome that I started last month,
Rabbit, rabbit! Here's the March Hare to bring in the new month.

The GFWC-IL Tenth District art show/luncheon was Wednesday. I entered Crown of Thorns in
Category 5 (Embroidery, Quilting, Tatting) (a strange combination, considering that "wall hangings" is a separate category) and won second place. P.E.O. friends Jeannine and Nancy, both members of the Antioch Woman's Club, won ribbons, as did Regina and Judy who are fellow members of the Zion Woman's Club (the one I belong to).

What I strive for in a super-scrappy design like this is to have no-two-fabrics-touching, particularly in the really obvious places (like the blue parts of the flying geese that surround the stars). I wasn't completely successful when it came to the small rectangles in the sashing. If you notice them then you are looking ... read more
(Now that I look at the photo I see a couple of turned-around HSTs -- top row, second from right, and third row, second from right. Glad I caught them.)
The blocks will be set on point with half-blocks in place of setting triangles. I have to figure out in which box or set of baggies those components are.
Making the blocks is my One ... read more
